We design primary and secondary schools and FE colleges. Our schools have won numerous awards, but more importantly they seem to be appreciated by the people who use them. We try to respond to the educational aims and priorities of each of our clients in the context of each particular site. The result is a unique design for each school.

“The school is spacious and dramatic and it makes us feel special” – Year 8 pupil

We bring useful experience and understanding to each project. Our aim is to produce excellent conditions for teaching and learning while minimising demands on the environment. With the entire team – client, designers and constructors – we take a holistic approach towards sustainability. We have long been in the forefront of low energy design, maximising passive means of environmental control and the use of natural light.

We design whole new schools, additions to existing buildings and new uses for old ones. The list of projects below includes SEN as well as mainstream schools and private as well as public sector ones (* indicates those which have won awards). Our website www.nicholashare.co.uk illustrates all of these projects.

Awards

Our most recent award is the 2010 BCSE award for Best School Extension, Refurbishment or Remodel, for Coleridge Primary School. In 2009 we were named Best School Architect at the BCSE awards (British Council for School Environments).  We also won ‘Best Design for a New School’ at the Excellence in BSF Awards (for Park Hall School in Solihull), and the Prime Minister’s Better Public Building Award (for Joseph Chamberlain Sixth Form College in Birmingham).
